Total Resource Use and Efficiency TRUE
Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) is a zero waste certification programme administered by Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI), which serves as the global certification body for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building programme. LEED is a voluntary environmental certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
TRUE was launched in 2016 as a partnership between GBCI and the US Zero Waste Business Council (USZWBC). It was decided that GBCI should manage the Zero Waste Facility Certification (based on a peer-reviewed definition developed by the Zero Waste International Alliance) and Zero Waste Business Associate programmes (which helps organisations implement best practices and work towards achieving zero waste goals).
TRUE zero waste certification rates how well facilities minimise their non-hazardous solid waste and maximise their efficient use of resources. The programme goes beyond diversion numbers and focuses on upstream policies and practices for organisations. The goal of projects participating in TRUE is to divert all solid waste from landfills, incineration (waste-to-energy) and the environment.
