Technical inspection
The New Rules of Measurement (NRM) are published by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). They provide a standard set of measurement rules for estimating, cost planning, procurement and whole-life costing for construction projects.
According to NRM3: Order of cost estimating and cost planning for building maintenance works, the term ‘technical inspection’ refers to:
'…the examination of an asset, product or building engineering services installation (including plant and equipment) and the determination of their conformity with specific requirements, on the basis of professional judgment.’
The preparation of cost plans may require technical inspections, as well as surveys, specifications and other information.
