Loss leader

The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Glossary of procurement terms, defines a loss leader as: ‘A product or service delivered at a price that makes a loss for the supplier in the hope of future gains; usually used to break into a new market or to increase market share.’
