Graphitisation
Iron and Steel bridges: condition appraisal and remedial treatment (CIRIA C664), published by CIRIA in 2008 defines graphitisation (or graphitic corrosion) as: ‘Corrosion of grey cast iron in which the metallic iron is converted into corrosion products leaving the graphite intact.’
