Caledonian
Green infrastructure and open environments: London’s foundations: protecting the geodiversity of the capital, Supplementary Planning Guidance, published by the Mayor of London in March 2012, suggests that Caledonian: ‘Refers to a major mountain-building (orogeny) event related to the closure of the Iapetus Ocean and the convergence of the Laurentia, Baltica and Avalonia crustal blocks during the Ordovician, Silurian and early Devonian. It affected eastern North America, Scotland, Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia and Greenland.’
