Apparent bias
Conflicts of interest for members acting as dispute resolvers, guidance note, UK 2nd edition, published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in November 2020, defines apparent bias as: ‘A situation where the fair-minded and informed observer, having considered the facts, concludes that there is a real possibility that the dispute resolver is biased.’
