555 Howard, San Francisco
In February 2017, Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) unveiled its designs for a new high-rise glazed tower in San Francisco.
555 Howard is being developed in collaboration with local architectural practice Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects, and will be Piano’s first American tower outside of New York.
Described as a ‘super-clear glass tower’, the mixed-use development will incorporate a hotel, residential space, meeting rooms, a ballroom, gym, restaurant, and an open rooftop terrace. The developers, Pacific Eagle and SKS Partners, plan to include 15% affordable housing.
The tower creates an open space on the ground floor, with a glazed setback from the street, which will be seen from the Transbay Transit Center nearby.
The developers hope to begin construction by late 2017.
