Zenith de Strasbourg
Zenith de Strasbourg is an indoor arena designed in the Postmodern Expressionist style, and located in the eastern French city of Eckbolsheim, Bas-Rhin. It hosts sport, music and theatre events and has a capacity of 12,079.
Designed by Italian architect Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, and completed in 2008, the building is intended to be a single, unified and autonomous ‘light sculpture’. It is covered with a translucent orange fabric which gives it the appearance of being solid during the day, but when illuminated at night, it becomes translucent, revealing its internal structure.
The ellipsoid metal façade is layered and rotated to create a dynamic and playful form, accentuated by the textile membrane which is made from a woven and coated glass fibre. Light projections can be cast onto the membrane creating a ‘giant billboard’.
