Projections
In its broadest sense, the word 'projection' refers to: 'A potential future evolution of a quantity or set of quantities, often computed with the aid of a model. Unlike predictions, projections are conditional on assumptions concerning, for example, future socio economic and technological developments that may or may not be realised.' Ref Climate Change 2021, The Physical Science Basis, published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2021.
However, in the construction industry, the word 'projection' might also refer to drawing techniques used to represent three-dimensional objects in two-dimensions by 'projecting' their image onto a planar surface.
For more information see: Drawing projection.
It may also refer to an element of a building or structure that projects out from the surface, such as a balcony.
