Raking piles
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines raking piles as: ‘Piles installed at an angle to the vertical. They are usually installed alongside regular vertical piles where additional support is required when ground conditions are likely to result in lateral (sideways) movement.’
