Protected enclosure
The Scottish Building Standards, Part I. Technical Handbook – Domestic, Appendix A Defined Terms, defines a protected enclosure in a dwelling as: ‘…a circulation area constructed to resist fire in adjoining accommodation. It includes a hall, landing or private stair or ramp but not a room.’
