Pipe culvert
Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines a culvert as: 'A covered channel or pipe which prevents the obstruction of a watercourse or drainage path by an artificial construction.'
It defines a pipe culvert as: ‘Circular in cross section. Constructed from a pre-cast pipe, often of concrete or plastic (MDPE [medium density polyethylene], high density polyethylene [HDPE] and occasionally UPVC (un-plasticised polyvinyl chloride], but other materials can include vitreous clay, stell, cast/ductile iron and glass reinforced plastic (GRP).’
