Ecological status
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines ecological status as: ‘The state of a water body, derived from a number of factors, including: the abundance of aquatic flora and fauna; nutrient availability; salinity; temperature; and chemical pollution levels.’
