Drawing for Understanding, Creating Interpretive Drawings of Historic Buildings, published by Historic England in 2016 defines a cutting plane as: ‘The line of cut through the structure and spaces of a building, a horizontal cutting plane is used to produce a plan a vertical cutting plane is used to produce section drawings.’
