Accuracy
Land measurement for planning and development purposes, Guidance Note, Global 1st edition, Published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in May 2021, defines accuracy as: ‘…the degree to which the result of a measurement, calculation or specification conforms to the correct value or a standard. It should be understood by comparison with Precision.’
Where: ‘In survey measurement, precision relates to the degree to which repeated measurements show the same results. It should be understood by comparison with accuracy.’
Applied digital documentation In the historic environment, published on 19 March 2018 by Historic Scotland, suggests that precision refers to: ‘How closely repeat measurements agree. Arithmetic precision refers to the total number of digits used to represent a Fig, e.g. number of decimal places.’
