Horsepower
Horsepower is a measure of power or work output, usually in reference to machines or engine power. In some areas, it has been superseded by the units of watts, kilowatts or kilowatt hours (W/kW/kWh), which are part of the International System of Units (SI).
A watt (W) is the unit of electrical or mechanical power and equates to 1 joule per second. The metric horsepower unit is equal to 75 kilogram-meters per second which is approximately 735.5 watts. Imperial horsepower from the British Imperial System, equals 33,000 foot-pounds of work per minute or the power needed to lift 33,000 pounds one foot high in one minute which is about 745.7 watts.
