Fire and Emergency File
The Fire and Emergency File is: ‘One of the core information products that duty-holders will be required to produce during the design and construction phase. This builds upon the fire statement produced at gateway one (where produced) and sets out the key building safety information. The file will then be updated and ultimately passed across to the person accountable for safety during the occupation phase.’ Ref A reformed building safety regulatory system, Government response to the ‘Building a Safer Future’ consultation, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, April 2020.
Setting the bar. A new competence regime for building a safer future. The Final Report of the Competence Steering Group for Building a Safer Future, published in October 2020, defines the fire and emergency file (FEF) as: ‘One of the core information products that dutyholders will be required to produce during the design and construction phase. This builds upon any fire statement produced at gateway one and sets out the key building fire safety information (design intent and strategy for compliance with Building Regulations). The file will be updated during the construction phase with as-built information and to confirm compliance. The file will be passed to the client and will be used by the Accountable Person to manage fire safety during the occupation phase.’
