Sub-compartment
The Scottish Building Standards, Part I. Technical Handbook – Domestic, Appendix A Defined Terms, define a sub-compartment as: ‘…a part of a building (which may contain one or more rooms, and includes, where relevant, the space above the top storey of the sub-compartment) constructed so as to aid horizontal evacuation.’
It defines a sub-compartment wall as: ‘…a wall with the fire resistance required to create a sub-compartment.’
