Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines a stilling basin as a: ‘Structure for dissipating energy of flow, comprising a basin in which a hydraulic jump, flow impact or other form of energy dissipation occurs.’
