Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019, defines progressive failure as a: ‘Failure process where, once a threshold is exceeded, some residual strength enables the asset to maintain restricted performance while further progressive loss of strength takes place. Not as dramatic as quick or catastrophic failure.’
