Deaf person
The Loss Prevention Code of Practice CoP 0001 Issue 1.0, Code of Practice for visual alarm devices used for fire warning, published by BRE Global in 2012 suggests that a deaf person is ‘a person who cannot hear sounds less than 80 dBA.’
It suggests that a hard of hearing person is ‘a person who can only hear sounds above 25 dBA but can hear sounds less than 80 dBA.’
The definitions are based on information published by the Royal National Institute for Deaf people (RNID) and the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD).
