Copper / silver ionisation
The Illustrated Guide to Hot and Cold Water Services (BG 33/2014), written by Reginald Brown and published by BSRIA in 2014. In relation to copper / silver ionisation, it states: ‘ Copper and silver ions are created by electrolysis using copper / silver alloy electrodes and injected into the hot or cold water distribution systems. This method is effective against legionella but it is difficult to control the active silver concentration within the acceptable range in hard water. The use of silver as a disinfectant has run into problems with European requirements for drinking water quality.’
