Original building
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in 2021, defined an original building as: ‘A building as it existed on 1 July 1948 or, if constructed after 1 July 1948, as it was built originally.’
This definition was repeated in the revised NPPF in 2024.
