Heidi Schwartz joins Designing Buildings Wiki as editor
Designing Buildings Wiki, the most popular construction industry website in the UK, has appointed Heidi Schwartz as its new editor. Heidi has an editorial background that spans more than 30 years, with the majority of that time dedicated to reporting on facilities management, commercial real estate, economic development, architecture, construction and building operations.
Most recently, Heidi has been working in the charity sector as content editor for a website that provides information on living with disabilities and health issues, making long-term care choices and ageing well in the UK. She joined the organisation in 2015 (while the site was in its pre-launch stage), and during her tenure, she played a pivotal role in helping define, create and populate the site with hundreds of pages of engaging, original content.
In addition to writing and editing many articles, Heidi managed several audio productions that were hosted on the site. This included two weekly abridged newspapers, one monthly magazine and a weekly programme of original news stories. She also served a lead content creator for the organisation’s internal communications initiative.
Before joining the charity sector, Heidi worked for Group C Media, a B2B media company covering commercial real estate. She was hired by the New Jersey-based company in 1989, first as managing editor and then as editor/co-publisher of Facility Executive magazine. Under Heidi’s editorial leadership, the publication focused on key facilities management subjects—like construction, safety and security, professional development, services and maintenance, energy and the environment and disaster planning and recovery—and became the leading resource for the industry. Heidi was promoted to the position of Internet Director for Group C in 2012, where she was responsible for all of the company’s publications and events.
Heidi said; “I am very pleased to be joining Designing Buildings Wiki and returning to report on a sector that I covered for so many years. To be able to contribute to such an impressive site in this capacity is an absolute honour.”
Gregor Harvie, Director of Designing Buildings Wiki said: "We are really delighted Heidi has agreed to join our team. She brings with her tremendous experience of facilities management and development as well as an impressive background in publishing. This will help us grow our online presence and will enhance the scope and depth of the knowledge we offer our users."
Heidi’s background includes a degree in English and a certificate in Information Technology. She has also completed courses in website design, digital photography, search engine optimisation and other web-oriented programming.
