General fire precautions
Fire safety in construction, written by HSE and Published by TSO (The Stationery Office), Third Edition, 2022, defines general fire precautions (GFP) as:
Structural features and equipment to ensure everyone reaches safety in case of a fire. GFP includes measures:
- to reduce the risk of fire and to control the spread of fire;
- in relation to the means of escape from premises;
- for ensuring that the means of escape can be safely and effectively used whenever they are needed;
- in relation to the means of fighting fires;
- in relation to the means for detecting fire and giving warning in case of fire; and
- in relation to the arrangements for action to be taken in the event of fire.
