Atria.jpg

Approved document B, Fire Safety, Volume 2, Buildings other than dwellinghouses, defines an atrium as:

'A space within a building, not necessarily vertically aligned, passing through one or more structural floors.'

Note: Enclosed lift wells, enclosed escalator wells, building servicesducts and stairways are not classified as atria.

The plural of atrium is ‘atria’.

NB Approved document B, Fire Safety, Volume 2, Buildings other than dwellinghouses (2019 edition), defines an atrium as:

'A continuous space that passes through one or more structural floors within a building, not necessarily vertically.'
