The commission’s reach covers 97% of the world’s population as all national standard bodies are members and the IEC also has an Affiliate Country Programme which allows newly industrialising countries to get involved in the development of standards. The IEC is a sister organisation to both ISO and ITU in order to ensure that international standards fit together.’
