Slip joint

The 2018 International Residential Code (IRC), published by the International Code Council (ICC) defines a slip joint as: ‘A mechanical-type joint used primarily on fixture traps. The joint tightness is obtained by compressing a friction-type washer such as rubber, nylon, neoprene, lead or special packing material against the pipe by the tightening of a (slip) nut.’
