SO2 Scrubbers
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has set out guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) that includes wastewater discharge and monitoring criteria to safeguard against possible environmental damage.
This guideline helps to prevent vehicles from discharging harmful sunstances into seawater by setting strict limits for a set of measured parameters. The criteria include the following:
- Turbidity (to safeguard against heavy metals and ash).
- Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH).
- pH Levels.
Scrubbers are one solution organisations can deploy to comply with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 0.5% sulphur cap.
