Promoted routes

High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines promoted routes as: ‘Local, regional or national trails that have been devised by local authorities and walking organisations to help promote the public right of way network.’
