Heritage significance
Heritage Building Retrofit Toolkit, published by the City of London Corporation in March 2024, defines heritage as: ‘All inherited resources which people value for reasons beyond mere utility” Conservation Principles (English Heritage, 2008). For the purposes of this document the word heritage is used in relation to a building, monument, site, place, area or landscape identified as having a degree of significance meriting consideration in planning decisions, because of its special interest.
It defines heritage significance as: ‘The value of a heritage asset to this and future generations because of its special interest.’
