BSI Flex 8670 V3.0, Built environment – Core criteria for building safety in competence frameworks – Code of practice, April 2021 Version 3, published by The British Standards Institution in 2021, defines formal learning as: ‘organized and structured learning objectives’.

It defines informal learning as: ‘self-directed learning or learning from experience’.

And prior learning as: ‘formal or informal learning used as a reference point for the likely skills, knowledge and experience required to competently undertake a specific role, including qualification, certification and training.’
