High Speed 2 (HS2)
One wonders about the validity of this scheme when at the present time many travellers elect to use the cheaper but slower train service from the West Midlands into the capital. It is suspected that the cost of H.S.2 travel will be the deciding factor for many, this is true at the present where first class travel on the current fast trains only runs at a quarter capacity, whilst standard coaches are full, straw polls indicate cost as the main reason. Likewise the choice of slow but cheaper train service's. As stated in this article, the real advance will be to diminish the need for travel by technology innovation.

Thank you for your comment. It is important to remember that HS2 is not just about speed but also about capacity improvements on other lines both for passengers and freight. A more compelling argument in favour of HS2 can be found on this website titled 'The future of rail - insights into High Speed 2' by Martin Shapland of ICE. Well worth a read. -Ed.
