Precedence diagram method
The Code of Estimating Practice, seventh edition, published by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) in 2009 suggests that the term ‘precedence diagram method’, or PDM, refers to:
A method of constructing a logic network using nodes to represent the activities and connecting them by lines that show dependencies.
The Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM) is a visual representation technique which is used to prepare the project schedule network diagrams and determine the critical path.
The Society of Construction Law Delay and Disruption Protocol, 2nd edition, suggest that a precedence diagram is a network in which the nodes symbolise activities, also referred to as an 'activity-on-the-node network'.
