Spatial reference system

The Geospatial Glossary, published by the Geospatial Commission, and accessed on 17 September 2022, defines spatial as: ‘Relating to the position, area, and size of things.’

It defines a spatial reference system (SRS) as: ‘…a coordinate-based local, regional or global system used to locate geographical entities. A spatial reference system defines a specific map projection, as well as transformations between different spatial reference systems.’
