Northing and Easting

The Geospatial Glossary, published by the Geospatial Commission, and accessed on 17 September 2022, defines Easting as the: ‘Distance in a coordinate system, eastwards (positive) or westwards (negative) from a north-south reference line.’

It states: 'Northing and easting are geographic Cartesian coordinates for a point. Easting is the eastward-measured distance and northing is the northward-measured distance.'
