Metabolic rate
Thermal Comfort (TG 22/2023) published by BSRIA in 2023 states: ‘Metabolic rates of humans are measured using the met unit. 1 met represents a heat output of 58 W per square metre of a person’s surface area. As an average adult has a surface area of about 1.7 m2 , their sensible heat output is about 100 W.’
Metabolic rate is a factor that can affect the thermal comfort of building occupants.
