<h1>Composite Decking Vs Timber Decking</h1>

<p>Renovating a garden with the intention of adding value to a property can be a lengthy and daunting process. What is a reasonable budget? How long will the renovation take? What materials should be used? ie; premium materials such as <a href="http://ecoscapeuk.co.uk/products/composite-decking">Composite Decking</a> and Cladding can often be found in cheaper materials such as Timber, Cedar and Larch but when weighing up cost vs durability vs aesthetic, is it worth spending a little extra for added peace of mind?

Simply put, Yes, Yes it is!</p>

<p>With this in mind we asked 100 people in garden centres and building merchants what was most important just to be sure and not surprisingly, 81% of people said they would be prepared to spend additional funds if it guaranteed a durable and sound investment.</p>

<h2>Composite Decking Boards Vs Timber Decking Boards</h2>

<p>With decking a feature in most British gardens we looked into the differences between Composite and Timber as materials. Please note: we are basing this article on the best material for adding value to a property. Landlords and rental properties tend to go for a cheaper solution.</p>

<p>So, what is best to use and why?

<h3>Composite Decking</h3>

<ul>

<li>Low Maintenance – Can be cleaned using soap and water. Can have any metal fixings used with no risk of chemical reactions or staining</li>

<li>Durable / Longevity – Can last up to 5 times longer than that of timber decking</li>

<li>Resistant to weather, insect and fungal decay damage</li>

<li>Ideal for those with a love of contemporary design</li>

<li>Premium Product – Perspective buyers can see that a garden with composite decking will require little maintenance. Once installed you will not need to worry about decking again!</li>

</ul>

Composite materials are incredibly hard wearing, have a longer life span and are available in any colour without the risk of weather damage, insect damage or unsightly staining with age.</p>

<h3>Timber Decking</h3>

<ul>

<li>Cheaper than Composite Decking – A good option for those with a small budget, landlords with rental properties or possibly a first time home buyer</li>

<li>Requires monthly maintenance – Specialist cleaning materials are required in order to get the most out of your wooden decking</li>

<li>Stainless Steel is the only metal that can be used as fixings – Any other metal will cause reactions within the wood. This is usually stain damage.</li>

<li>Requires preservation / safe guarding treatment against the weather, insect damage and decay</li>

<li>Can be stained to any colour – Will cater for the most picky of people. Will suit any design taste</li>

</ul>

<p>Timber decking is a solid product that is suited to people who tend to have smaller budgets and rental properties. The common issue with Timber is that it cannot compete with composite decking. It requires more maintenance, is open to weathering over time and will, at some point, need to be upgraded.</p>

<p>After speaking with landscape specialists, building merchants and the team over at <a href="http://ecoscapeuk.co.uk/">Ecoscape UK</a> we can all agree, Composite Decking wins, hands down! This is why more and more companies and investing more in composite stock.</p>
