−	~~Department~~	+	Prof. Hassan is currently the Dean of Engineering at the British University in Egypt (BUE). The BUE is a private institution, which is validated by two UK universities,according to the QAA regulations and accredited by the national authorities in Egypt. He is also engaged in a range of administrative positions at the University level.

−	~~Civil Engineering~~	+	His experience over the past 24 years in teaching, research, community relations and academic leadership equipped him with a wide range of skills. His role in the establishment of a tight academic quality assurance cycle allowed him the ability to develop and improve new and existing ones. This quality assurance cycle was an integral component of the successful acquisition and maintenance of validation and accreditation of all programmes in the faculty, by national and international accrediting bodies.

−	~~Degree~~	+	His research activities over the years equipped him with the needed in-depth understanding of research mechanics which could be channelled towards developing enabling, engaging and creating incentive mechanisms to promote state-of-the-art research activities. His leadership roles over the past eleven years, which ranged from the departmental level to the faculty level as the Dean, provided him with the needed insight of all details of academic life of any university. During this period of time he was also responsible for planning at the departmental level as well as the faculty level. Achieved planning activities included human resource planning and recruitment, budgeting and budget management and physical resources planning and upgrading. The faculty of engineering, hosts 2500 students and comprised about 300 staff members.

−	~~Professor, Associate Dean~~	+	Over the past eleven years he has been engaged at a range of activities at the university level that contributed to the development of the strategic directions and plans of the university. First as a member of a technical advisory group to the president, then as the director of an institutional planning and development unit and finally as a member of two working groups the first is tasked with the development of the new strategic plan of the university, while the second is tasked with providing mechanisms for developing the BUE campus and transforming it into a 21st century vibrant campus.

−	~~Prof. Hassan earned his B.Sc. in Structural Engineering in 1983 from Ain-Shams University, followed by M.Sc. in 1988 from~~ the ~~same school in Structural Dynamics. During the first five~~ years ~~of his career~~ he ~~practiced engineering across several capacities in structural steel and reinforced concrete design and construction.~~	+

−	~~Prof. Hassan then joined the University of Maryland~~ at ~~College Park, USA, in 1988 as~~ a ~~teaching assistant studying towards his PhD. As a teaching assistant, Prof. Hassan taught several engineering courses in the US~~ at the ~~200 and 400 levels. He worked on several research projects during his doctoral studies. He developed a real time safety fuzzy controller for structures during~~ the ~~construction stage. Prof. Hassan earned his Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of Maryland at College Park, USA, in Structural Reliability. He then joined one~~ of the ~~private higher education institutions, in Egypt, where he helped develop the curriculum~~ of the ~~civil engineering department~~. ~~Prof. Hassan was awarded~~ a ~~Fulbright teaching/research grant in 2004 where he taught structural engineering courses at the University~~ of ~~Maryland at College Park for one academic year and conducted his research. Prof. Hassan joined the BUE in 2006~~ to ~~establish~~ the ~~Civil Engineering Department. During this period~~, ~~he was involved in~~ the ~~establishment~~ of ~~the Civil Engineering Department, through the~~ development of ~~an up-to-date curriculum. As~~ the founding Head, he led the efforts in validating the programme by Loughborough University, according to the QAA regulations which was successfully achieved in August 2007. He continued to lead the Department until August 2013. In September 2013, Prof. Hassan was appointed Associate Dean for Research, Post Graduate Studies and Community Services.	+
