−

Composite decking is one of the most widely used materials <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">when it comes </del>to <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">building </del>a <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">deck for your home </del>or <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">someone else’s, depending on who you </del>are. Composite decking <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">has been around for decades</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">and there’s a good reason; composite decking had a lot </del>of <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">benefits on advantages compared </del>to <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">other materials</del>.

+

Composite decking is one of the most widely<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">-</ins>used <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">decking </ins>materials<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">. Composite decking is also referred </ins>to <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">as wood-plastic composite or WPC and is </ins>a <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">variant of standard wood decking. Standard wood decking tends to be manufactured from timber slats </ins>or <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">planks that </ins>are <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">combined to form decking</ins>. Composite decking, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">is made </ins>of <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">wood flour – incredibly fine wood particle that ranges from the size of sand </ins>to <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">rice grains – and recycled polymers</ins>.

−

<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">== What Is It Made Of? ==</del>

+

<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">WPC is a very different from standard timber, and should not be confused with medium-density fibreboard, also known as MDF.</ins>

−

<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Composite decking is also referred to as </del>wood<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">-plastic composite or WPC </del>and is <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">a slight variant of </del>standard wood decking<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">. Standard wood decking </del>tends to be <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">timber slats or planks that are compiled together to form decking; however, this means that lots of wood are required, which can be costly and inefficient</del>.

+

<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">WPC consists of </ins>wood <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">flour </ins>and <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">recycled polymers, which it </ins>is <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">claimed is more 'environmentally friendly' than </ins>standard wood decking <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">as there </ins>tends to be <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">less waste material</ins>.

−

<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Composite decking</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">however</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">is different</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">since it consists </del>of <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">wood flour – incredibly fine wood particle that ranges in size</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">from </del>the <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">size </del>of <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">sand </del>to <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">rice grains – </del>and <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">recycled polymers</del>.

+

<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">The polymers that are included in WPC are some of the world’s most common plastics</ins>, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">such as polyethene (PE)</ins>, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">polypropylene (PP)</ins>, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Because </ins>of <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">these polymer additives, such as high-density polyethene (HDPE)</ins>, the <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">strength </ins>of <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">the WPC is drastically increased; composite decking with HDPE integrated within it has a higher tensile strength compared </ins>to <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">standard wood decking, meaning that it will resist any splintering </ins>and <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">decay that could happen to standard wood decking</ins>.

−

<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">== What are </del>the <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Benefits </del>of <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Composite Decking? ==</del>

+

<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Because of the recycled polymers, it can also withstand </ins>the <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">traditional problems </ins>of <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">standard wood decking. For example, wood decking that has been exposed to water can become structurally unstable and can rot. WPC decking does not rot when exposed to water.</ins>

−

<del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">WPC </del>is <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">a completely different type of </del>wood <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">compared to standard timber</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">and </del>it <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">is also something not to be confused with medium-density fibreboard</del>, <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">also known as MDF</del>. <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Because </del>of the <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">way it’s made</del>, there are <del class="diffchange diffchange-inline">some significant benefits associated with WPC</del>.

+

<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Another problem that people can suffer with standard wood decking </ins>is<ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">, if they accidentally spill something on </ins>wood <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">decking</ins>, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">that any substances that get onto the wood stains </ins>it, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">which can make it look untidy and dirty</ins>. <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">Some types </ins>of <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">composite decking feature a thin layer of polymer-based veneer above </ins>the <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">standard WPC decking</ins>, <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">meaning that it’s easy to clean if </ins>there are <ins class="diffchange diffchange-inline">any spillages</ins>.

New page

Composite decking is one of the most widely used materials when it comes to building a deck for your home or someone else’s, depending on who you are. Composite decking has been around for decades, and there’s a good reason; composite decking had a lot of benefits on advantages compared to other materials.

== What Is It Made Of? ==

Composite decking is also referred to as wood-plastic composite or WPC and is a slight variant of standard wood decking. Standard wood decking tends to be timber slats or planks that are compiled together to form decking; however, this means that lots of wood are required, which can be costly and inefficient.

Composite decking, however, is different, since it consists of wood flour – incredibly fine wood particle that ranges in size, from the size of sand to rice grains – and recycled polymers.

== What are the Benefits of Composite Decking? ==

WPC is a completely different type of wood compared to standard timber, and it is also something not to be confused with medium-density fibreboard, also known as MDF. Because of the way it’s made, there are some significant benefits associated with WPC.

== Environmentally Friendly ==

Since WPC consists of wood flour and recycled polymers, it is much more environmentally friendly than standard wood decking. When creating wood decking, there is a lot of wood that is waste material and is put into incinerators and landfills. However, WPC eliminates this, as well minimising the polymers that are added to landfill sites, resulting in an eco-friendly alternative.

== Strong ==

The polymers that are included in WPC are some of the world’s most common plastics, such as polyethene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and even polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Because of these polymer additives, such as high-density polyethene (HDPE), the strength of the WPC is drastically increased; composite decking with HDPE integrated within it has a higher tensile strength compared to standard wood decking, meaning that it will resist any splintering and decay that could happen to standard wood decking.

== Safer ==

Another great benefit of composite decking is that, because of the recycled polymers, it can withstand the traditional effects of standard wood decking. For example, wood decking that has been exposed to water can become structurally unstable and can result in wood rot.

However, because WPC decking consists of additional polymers, it means that composite decking doesn’t rot when exposed to water. This makes composite decking much safer than standard wood decking.

== Maintains Cleanliness ==

One problem that people tend to suffer from with standard wood decking is, if they accidentally spill something on wood decking, that any substances that get onto the wood stains it, which can make it look untidy and dirty.

However, one benefit of certain types of composite decking is that they also feature a thin layer of polymer-based veneer above the standard WPC decking, meaning that it’s easy to clean if there are any spillages.
