An organisation may decide to carry out an audit, on its own behalf, on another organisation. It occurs when the integrity, competence, work process or financial standing of a supplier or sub-contractor needs to be ascertained, or the organisation may decide to check on a customer before entering into partnership or providing credit.

Organisations are likely to carry out a second party asset management and maintenance audit on a number of occasions during the building’s life cycle:

* when a new appointee is added to a list of approved suppliers
* when it is necessary to ensure that an existing supplier conforms to stated requirements
* When an asset portfolio is handed back to a client, to assist in the assessment of dilapidation.
