Opportunities are limited to the number of geographic locations that are suitable, so these schemes are few. At a much smaller scale, pumped hydro can be used where alternative solutions are impractical, but it is important to note its drawbacks. Frictional losses due to turbulence account for about 50% of the stored energy and the physical infrastructure required is substantial.’<br />
