PAS 180:2014 defines ‘Smart cities’ as ‘…the effective integration of physical, digital and human systems in the built environment to deliver a sustainable, prosperous and inclusive future for its citizens.’

It was developed alongside PAS 181 Smart city framework, intended to help decision makers develop, agree and deliver smart city strategies.

PAS 182 Smart city concept model, a guide to establishing a model for data interoperability to help develop a better picture of the needs and behaviours of a city’s citizens, is currently in preparation.
