	National development management policies (NDMPs) are a a new category of planning policies that were introduced through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Act 2023. NDMPs will carry the same weight as local plans in decision-making on planning applications. NDMPs will drawn up by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) with public consultation, in a case of a conflict between the two, NDMPs will override local plans. The intention is for NDMPs will make local plans faster to produce and easier to navigate because nationally important issues will be protected by NDMPs and safe guard against out dated local plans local which will be able to focus on locally important issues. For example policies surrounding net zero and other policies relating to economic, social and environmental objectives forming the basis of sustainable development.
