The [https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IRC2018P4/chapter-10-chimneys-and-fireplaces#IRC2018P4_Ch10_SecR1003.1 2018 International Residential Code (IRC)], published by the International Code Council (ICC) defines a masonry chimney as: ’a chimney constructed of solid masonry units, hollow masonry units grouted solid, stone or concrete, hereinafter referred to as masonry. Masonry chimneys shall be constructed, anchored, supported and reinforced as required in Chapter 10 of the IRC’.
