The two chemicals in the battery are, as the name suggests, solid lead and liquid sulphuric acid. They can give off hydrogen gas when recharging and also carry the risk of acid leaks if their case is damaged. Most modern versions of this battery are known as valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. These are sealed to prevent gas escaping during recharging.’&lt;br /&gt;
