In July 2018, the International Fire Safety Standards (IFSS) Coalition was launched at the UN with the intention of setting minimum levels of fire safety and professionalism globally and bringing greater consistency.

The coalition is a group of construction and real estate industry professional and not-for-profit organisations and was established in response to the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017. It is intended that the fire safety standards established by the coalition will be agreed at a global level and implemented locally, while being owned by the coalition rather than a single organisation.
