The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) has announced the details of its Annual School 2021. Based on the theme of Historic Places - People Places, the event is scheduled for 17-18 June 2021. The two-day event will include virtual learning options in the form of webinars and the Brighton School Heritage MarketPlace.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
= 17 June 2021 - Brighton focus =&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The virtual option set for 17 June 2021 features a suite of webinars that cover practice-related aspects of the theme, Historic Places - People Places. In addition to an examination of heritage, retrofits, asset and resource management and other key topics, the online portion of the programme will feature a special examination of Brighton and England’s South East. This will serve as the focus for more practical studies, informed by lessons from across the UK and beyond. Brighton, which is part of the organisation’s South East Branch region, is hosting IHBC’s Annual School 2021.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The virtual sessions will be offered live to registered delegates on the day they take place, but some of the programme will also be available to attendees for review after the live event has concluded.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
= 18 June 2021 - UK focus =&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The 2021 Day School (Friday 18 June 2021) offers opinions and answers on school topics, informed by global practice, but with a strong UK focus. The day’s activities include morning and afternoon sessions that will continue to examine the theme of Historic Places - People Places. David McDonald, IHBC Chair and interlocutor Rosemarie McQueen, Historic England Commissioner will oversee the proceedings during IHBC’s 2021 Virtual Day School.&lt;br /&gt;

The two 2021 Brighton Day School webinar sessions will span overlooked but critical stages of conservation.&lt;br /&gt;

== Morning session ==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The morning session, scheduled for 9.30-11.30 BST, will look at tools and strategies used to improve places. Particular emphasis in the morning presentations will be placed on design, regeneration and investment.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Globally respected urbanist Jan Gehl will serve as international session anchor as he opens the morning session on design. This will be followed by co-presenter Paul McTernan’s examination of regeneration. The morning will conclude with a session by co-presenter Eilish McGuinness on investment.&lt;br /&gt;

== Afternoon session ==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The afternoon learning opportunities, scheduled for 3.30-5.30 BST, will examine the subject of change. The programme will explore the lessons that can be learnt as people engage in changing places by assessing impacts from economic measures as well as in investigation and regulation.&lt;br /&gt;

Leading US heritage economist Donovan Rypkema will step in as international session anchor as he opens the afternoon session on economics. This will be followed by co-presenter Charles O’Brien’s discussion on investigation. The afternoon will conclude with co-presenter Elizabeth McCrone’s exploration of regulation.&lt;br /&gt;
