People that find here, volunteered, dont even know how to make a fire or how to keep warm clothing-wise. If its really cold Ill put a hot water bottle under my knees so Ill heat up the blood going down to my toes. Or Ill go and cut firewood or carry water up the hill to stay warm. We have solar panels and a wind generator which can make a big difference during the night. December is quite difficult as there can be no wind or no sun so you have to tell everyone not to use their computers and rely on head torches. For the first year and a half, we took our water from a stream and then we got a bit of money from Channel 4 who made a programme about the whole issue of planning and politics and we allocated the money to a hydraulic ram pump, one of Britains most valuable inventions."
