New page

[https://www.coe.int/en/web/landscape/publications Spatial development glossary, European Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning (CEMAT), Territory and landscape, No 2], published by Council of Europe Publishing in 2007, defines environmental planning as: ‘…a relatively new discipline aiming at merging the practice of urban/regional planning with the concerns of environmentalism. Environmental planning concerns both urban/metropolitan and rural/natural areas. Environmental planning considers a full range of environmental regulations from the European to the local level. The most common expression of environmental planning is the realisation of rigorous environmental impact assessments of projects and programmes concerning land-use, economic development, transportation, housing development, air, noise, water, wetlands, endangered species and habitats, ecosystems, flood zones, coastal zones, visual aspects, etc.’
